It is easily understandable that outboard motored boats have a large place in the future days afloat; especially outboard motor boats of modest speeds and simple characteristics. Boats of wholesome model that can be used for work and pleasure; but still of pleasing lines and ability to keep going in rough or smooth water and because so many amateurs go in for building boats, the form and construction must be simple and practicable. With these considerations in mind I have designed Punch, a 17-foot flat bottomed skiff.
Punch is a big boat for her overall dimensions; she is 16 feet on the water line, 5 feet 1 1/2 inches in breadth, and draws 6 1/2 inches of water. The freeboard forward is 2 feet 4 inches; the least freeboard is 1 foot 7 1/2 inches; and freeboard aft 1 foot 9 inches. The generous depth from sheer line to bottom produces a big boat, and also, because of the generous freeboard, one that will be reasonably dry in choppy water.
Punch is designed for outboard motors of 1 1/2 to 12 h.p. for speeds of 6 to 15 m.p.h.
