PHOTOS OF HAPPY CLAM

John Atkin at the helm of the original Happy Clam.
John designed and built Happy Clam for Ed Davis.
Because of the relatively broad, flat keel, the boat will maintain a level position when beached or tied to a flat-bed boat trailer.

The box deadwood provides protection for the propeller (the galvanized-iron shoe had not yet been installed).
Happy Clam is powered by a Palmer Baby Husky.
A compartment under a flush lid in the thwart holds tools and small gear. A gasoline tank and a rope locker lie beneath the slatted bow seat.

To allow one to face aft while trolling, the after thwart is set some distance ahead of the transom.
